Kent Hospital President and CEO Sandra L. Coletta announced today that the hospital will build a new Plaza of Honor dedicated to veterans of all conflicts, while paying tribute to the people and rich history of Kent Hospital from the past and present.
She also announced that Dr. Paul E. Barber, Sr., William H. Lang and Dr. Michael J. Dacey, Jr., will serve as honorary co-chairs for the project. Dr. Barber, recently retired after 59 years of service at Kent Hospital. Mr. Lang served as the hospital administrator from 1960-1985 and Dr. Dacey is senior vice president and chief medical officer. He is also a former U.S. Army officer.
“This Plaza of Honor will be a wonderful way to honor the rich history of Kent Hospital,” said Coletta. “It will provide a lasting memorial to all of our veterans, staff and residents of Kent County who have shaped the character and commitment to care here at the hospital.”
Kent County Memorial Hospital was dedicated in 1951 in honor of Rhode Island’s World War II veterans, and has served the community by providing quality health care ever since. The hospital’s original dedication plaque will be proudly displayed in this new inspirational outdoor memorial, which will commemorate those who have served in the United States Armed forces and members of the Kent community.
The Plaza of Honor will be built at the north end of the hospital’s campus. It will feature three stately flagpoles for the American, Rhode Island, and Kent flags that will be visible from both Interstate 95 and the Hospital’s main entrance. The plaza will include a pathway from the parking lot, the dedication plaque wall, a brick plaza, and attractive benches and landscaping. Individuals will be able to honor those who have served our country, other loved ones, or Kent Hospital staff members through personalized bricks and other naming opportunities.
With the original memorial plaque as the centerpiece of this plaza, this will be a constant reminder to all of the sacrifices made for our freedom by the residents of Kent County and of those who have served our country since and continue to serve today.
The Plaza of Honor will be dedicated on Flag Day—June 14, 2010. For more information contact the Kent Hospital Foundation at 737-7000 x 1257. |
