Palliative Care is symptom focused care for patients with serious illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both patients and families. Palliative care can help patients live better and longer with their illness and can be provided at any stage of a serious
illness. Palliative care at Kent Hospital is provided by the Care New England Palliative Care team, which provides services at all CNE facilities and in our surrounding community.
Palliative Care at Kent Hospital is provided under the supervision of Kate Lally, MD, chief of Palliative Care at Care New England. She works with a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and chaplains to make sure that the physical, social and spiritual needs of patients are addressed. The palliative care team collaborates with primary care doctors and medical specialists, along with hospital staff to ensure patients receive the best care possible.
Care New England Health System has joined other pioneering organizations to support a new effort by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), called The Conversation Project, to better prepare health care providers to receive and respect patients’ wishes about end-of-life care.
