The Rehabilitation Center, developed in consultation with Boston's Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, assures each patient superior care and convenience. The focus is on the whole person with the goal of returning that person to the best quality of life possible. The treatment team includes:

  • Rehabilitation physicians
  • Rehabilitation nurses
  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Speech- language pathologists
  • Neuropsychologists
  • Case Managers

Our goal is simple: to help our patients lead a more independent life following an illness or injury. Conditions often treated include, but not limited to:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Neurological impairments such as multiple sclerosis
  • Multiple traumas
  • Amputations
  • Orthopedic conditions
  • And many others

Rehabilitative care begins with appropriate therapies that lead the patient to the greatest degree of function possible, with individualized therapy goals to prepare patients once again, to enter the world of independent living. Kent Hospital works with their Care New England partners to provide an uninterrupted treatment path from inpatient rehabilitation, to home care and outpatient rehabilitation.

Current Accreditations

  • Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (TJC)
  • The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
    • Stroke Specialty Unit (CARF) - Specializing in the care of individuals that have suffered a stroke with an experienced team of physicians, nursing, neuropsychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work/discharge planner, and nutrition services.
    • Amputee Specialty Unit (CARF) - Specializing in the care of individuals after experiencing an amputation of the upper or lower extremities, or the care of an amputee after receiving their prosthesis.

The Rehabilitation Center at Kent Hospital has passed an in-depth review of its services by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). The value in CARF accreditation is adherence to rigorous guidelines for service and quality, recognized nationally and internationally and a commitment to continually improving rehabilitation services.

The Rehabilitation Center at Kent Hospital offers distinct advantages over nursing home or sub-acute rehabilitation. These advantages include:

  • Professional nursing staff trained to provide integrated practice with rehabilitation nursing.
  • Interdisciplinary team-focused rehabilitation.
  • Intensive therapy at a minimum of three hours per day, five hours per week.
  • Onsite physician care, 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

At the Rehabilitation Center at Kent, we believe that discharges to a nursing home can be prevented for many patients. They can instead be given the opportunity to come to an inpatient rehabilitation program. It is there that they can benefit from an intensive rehabilitation program and regain their independence for a safe return home.
